1. Admission to Graduate Programs

  1. Doctoral Degree Programs
    Admission and degree requirements for Doctoral Degrees are fully described in the DBA and DPA Programs of the Graduate School for each respective major.

  2. Master Degree Programs
    Students seeking admission in Master's Degree programs at" Western University are required to satisfy  the following requirements:

    (a) Obtained a "Licence", bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution;

    (b) Earned a passing score on the Graduate Admission Test covering general knowledge nom in an undergraduate program;

    (c) Earned a passing score on the English Placement Test;

    (d) Submitted a letter of application stating student interest and goals; and

    (e) Submitted two letters of recommendation.

    On admission, and prior to enrollment, the student will:

    Sign a letter agreeing to comply with WU academic policies and regulations and agreeing to pay all charges, fees, and textbook costs as required.

2. Admission to Undergraduate Programs

Students seeking admission in undergraduate programs at Western University of Cambodia must meet the following requirements:

Part 1
Western University, Guiding Principles

Article 1: Western University's guiding principles are as follows: Be neutral in politics and religions by not allowing any political or religious propaganda on the university campus. Develop human resources in Cambodia by strengthening education quality and providing access to study for Cambodians. Western University is an equal opportunity center for learning, and it is against discriminations and violence, and treats each other with mutual respect and morality.

Article 2: Instructor Selection: The President is responsible for recruiting and selecting well qualified and experienced instructors to teach students in accordance with the school curriculum approved by the Academic Board, and ensures the smooth operation of the university. How ever the president designates the to interview and hire lecturers in their respective department

Part 2
Requirements for Admission to the university

Article 3: Requirements for admission to the university

  1. All applicants shall be admitted to first year of bachelor program if they possess a high school diploma or equivalent diploma and pass the entrance exam or satisfy all the requirements of admission to the university.

  2. All applicants shall be admitted to first year of associate program if they possess a high school diploma, equivalent diploma or certificate of completion in grade 12 (for those who failed high school national exams) and pass the entrance exam or meet all the requirements of admission to the university.

Article 4: Tuition Fee: Students shall pay tuition fee before attending classes at the beginning of the month, semester, or the year, according to their choice of payment schedule. Paying later than the due date will result in a fine imposed by the Accounting Office.

Article 5: Student Selection : The selection of students will be made through the following two choices.

  • Choice 1: Selection of students who posse High School Transcript of the national exams. This selection is made through the final grades and ranks of the national exams. This selection  is both for scholarship holder and paying students. The scholarships will be offered to the outstanding, the poor, the far-flung, and female students.

  • Choice 2: Selection through testing the students who do not possess High School Transcript (those who passed the national exams before 2002).

Part 3 School Uniform

Article 6: Students are required to wear an appropriate uniform for the school, as suggested below:

  1. Male students are required to wear a pair of black pants, white shirt, and shoes.

  2. Female students are required to wear navy blue/black skirt, white shirt, and sandals/shoes.

  3. All students shall wear ties in exams or in school cereIes.

Article 7: All students are required to wear their ID cards on the left shirt pocket while on campus.

Part 4 Studying

Article 8: All students are required to take all courses in each academic year arranged by the university.

Article 9: A major may be changed if there is an approval from the management.

Article 10: Classes are arranged by the university.

Article 11: A transfer of class schedule may be made if there is an approval from the management.

Part 5
Deferred Admission to the University

Article 12: Students shall make their deferred admission to the university for the period of only one year. First year students are not allowed the deferred admission. During the deferment period, students are not allowed to take any exam, be promoted or take certified enrollment certificate.  

Article 13: When applying for admission to classes, students shall pay their school fees determined by the university one month before the deferment period expires.

rticle 14: If the students have not applied for admission to classes on time, they will be considered drop-outs.

Part 6 Absences

Article 15: Students who have unexcused absence will face disciplinary action from the Disciplinary Board.

Article 16:

  1. Unexcused Absence: Students must not be absent without asking for a leave.

    Students having 3 unexcused absences in any subject will be called to the Disciplinary Board for a discussion of the consequences and will be reported to parents.

    Students having 6 unexcused absences in any subject will be called to the Disciplinary Board for the second time and their parents will be invited to the university to be informed for the last time.

    Students who are absent for 30% of the scheduled classes of a course will receive a failing grade for that course but can take the supplementary exam.

    Students who are absent for 40% of the scheduled classes of two courses in a semester will receive a failing final grade and cannot be promoted.

  2. Excused Absence: When preoccapied, students must make a formal request for a leave of absence to the Studies Office through the Class Monitor with valid reasons.

    Students who are absent for 30% of the scheduled classes of a course will be called to the Disciplinary Board for a discussion of consequences and reported to parents.

    Students who are absent for 40% of the scheduled classes of a course will be called to the Disciplinary Board and their parents will be invited to the university to be informed for the last time.

    Students who are absent for 50% of the scheduled classes of a course will receive a failing grade for that course and will not be allowed to take supplementary exam unless there is a  special permission from the academic Board.

Part 7 General Regulations

Article 17: Students are required to attend classes and pay attention to lecturers. They must attend any internship, practicum, or social activity required in a course to be eligible to take the final exams.

Article 18: In classrooms

  1. Students shall strictly follow the class schedule. Later than 15 minutes, students will not be admitted to class unless there is a permission slip from the Director of Studies.
     

  2. During class, students shall pay attention to studying, and must not disturb other classmates or the whole class.
     

  3. When lecturers or visitors enter the class, students shall stay calm and behave themselves.
     

  4. If lecturers are absent or tardy more than 15 minutes, students shall stay calm and send a representative to contact the Studies Office.
     

  5. During breaks, students must behave themselves and shall not chase each other, make noise or have arguments.
     

  6. All students shall strictly abide by the school rules. They shall assist their friends, have good conduct, respect authorities and lecturers, study hard, and do any assignments assigned by their lecturers.
     

  7. If they wish to leave the class earlier because of personal problems or are unwell they must ask permission from the lecturer.
     

  8. During a class, students shall not bring any outside friends into classrooms.
     

  9. Students shall participate in any event arranged by the university.
     

  10. Student shoud not use cell phones, or listen to music during class and exams.

Article 19: On the school campus:

  1. Students shall not:

    Smoke, abuse alcoholic beverages or drug or traffic in drug.

    Bring any kind of weapons, drug, alcoholic beverages, or outside friends.

    Gamble or misbehave in a way which is against the Cambodian culture.

    Make noise, use foul or vulgar language or be impolite towards peers.

    Spoil the school environment such as write graffiti on walls, tables or doors in classrooms.

    Litter outside trash bins, spit on the floor or carpet etc. Damage the school property.

    Do something which has a conflict of interest with the school and the society.
     

  2. Security and safety. Report to the management if you come across the following: Fire Seriously sick students arguments among students Theft or robbery Hooligans coming into the schools etc.
     

  3. Personal Status. Students have to report to the school if they change their address or family status.

Part 8
Examinations and Academic Results

Article 20: In each semester for each course, there are:

  • At least two monthly tests or pieces of homework One mid-term examination

  • One Assignment/Project

  • One Semester Final Examination

  • One Supplementary Examination for those whose total semester scores are below 50%.

Article 21: If students fail to take the monthly tests, mid-term examination or turning their assignments/project, their scores will be zero.

Article 22: Semester Examinations

  1. Final Examinations: Final examinations for all subjects will be conducted at the end of each semester determined by the Studies Office. Students who abide by the school regulations are eligible to take the final examinations. The contents of the examination are written by the subject lecturers with the approval from the dean and the exam schedule will be posted on the notice boards one month prior to the dates of examination.Students have to conduct monthly tests, mid-term examination and assignments for each subject before taking the semester final examination.If they are absent during any examination, their score will be zero.Dates of examinations will be determined by the Studies Office.
     

  2. Promotion student maybe promoted for those who have passed all courses or failed only one course but they have to pass the failing course in the next academic year.
     

  3. Supplementary Examinations

    1. Students whose total score for a semester is below passing grade will have to take the supplementary examinations. They have to apply to take supplementary examinations.

    2. There is a final supplementary exam for students who have failed the semester supplementary exams. They have to apply to take the final supplementary examination with the payment determined by the university. If they fail the final examination, they are considered failing the course. All supplementary examination scores account for 50/50 like semester examination scores which have to be added up with ongoing scores to make 100%.

    3. The content of the supplementary examination will cover the subject area of the semester which students fail.

    4. Students are promoted if they failed not more than one course. If they failed from two courses up, they have to repeat the year and have to enroll in the same year as new students.
     

  4. Comprehensive Examinations
    In second semester, fourth year bachelor students and second year associate students shall apply to take the Comprehensive Examinations.Be eligible to take Bachelor and Associate Comprehensive Examinations if students have:passed both semester examinations (passed all courses) submitted an application to the Studies Office paid all school fees to the school. Those who have failed the Comprehensive Exams will have to take the Supplementary Comprehensive Exams after the Comprehensive Exams results have been released one month later.
     

  5. Thesis/ Report Writing
    Fourth year students of Bachelor program and second year students of Associate program have to write a thesis/ report in second semester and they have to defend their thesis/report in front of the thesis/ report committee who is assigned by the university after they have passed the Comprehensive Examinations. Students are considered having fulfilled all the requ"irements and to be admitted to Bachelor or Associate Degrees if they have successfully defended their thesis or report.

Article 23: Marking Scheme

  • 10% class participation, class attendance and discipline

  • 10% tests/homework

  • 15% mid-term exam

  • 15% assignment/project

  • 50% semester final exam or supplementary exam

  • 100% total score

  • A score less than 50% is considered a "fail".
